Harvey J. Michaels, 87 of Marblehead entered eternal rest May 29, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Boston, son of the late Abraham and Pauline (Sadur) Michaels, Mr. Michaels was raised in Plymouth, NH and has resided in Marblehead for the past 59 years. He was educated at Boston University receiving a BSBA and a Master in Education. For 35+ years he was a dedicated dynamic history teacher, dept. head, as well as class advisor for Swampscott High School and was instrumental in bringing a Holocaust course to the school. Also, he taught at the Temple Emanu-El religious school for decades, was a longtime board member of the Holocaust Center of the North Shore, was a founding & current board member of the Marblehead Task Force against discrimination and a lifetime member of Temple Emanu-El. An avid musician, he played the trumpet, loved jazz, big bands and enjoyed the symphony.
He was the devoted husband of the late Aileen (Smith) Michaels; beloved father of Shelley & her husband the late Arthur Kamin, Arthur & his wife Linda Michaels, and Steven & his wife Liz Michaels; adored grandfather of Lauren Michaels, Jordan Michaels, Andrew Michaels, Jason Michaels, Evan Kamin, Jonathan Kamin and the late Matthew Kamin. Dear brother of the late Arthur Michaels and Judith Brown Diamond.
Services at Temple Emanu-El 393 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead on Sunday May 31, at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at Temple Emanuel of Newton Cemetery in Randolph. Condolence calls may be made at the home Arthur & Linda Michaels Sunday following the interment until 9PM. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be donated to the Center for Holocaust & Genocide Studies at Salem State University 352 Lafayette Street Salem, MA 01970 or the Swampscott High School Class of 1962 Fund “In Honor of Class Advisor Harvey J.
