Condolence From: Marcy Campbell
Condolence: Dear Leslie and Dan, I was heartsick when I heard of Dwayne's passing. Les, I am sorry we did not get out to dinner again with both of you. We had such a fun time with you guys. I will always cherish my memories of our "shmish" years and the fun Bob and I had with both of you. Dwayne was always positive and happy even in the face of adversity. You should take solace from the fact that he knew how much you both loved him.

Dwayne never complained, I was so impressed on how he cooked meals before you came home. I.m sorry I wasn't there to the end. I will explain later. From your friend Nancy Mahan

Condolence From: David Gooch
Condolence: I can honestly say that the day I met Dwayne, it was the biggest turning point in my life. My family moved from Oklahoma to Connecticut just as I was entering the 9th grade, so I knew no one at E. O. Smith. Dwayne was in my Industrial Arts class and we soon became good friends. Shortly after meeting Dwayne, I met his circle of friends. One person in that circle was a girl named Robin. She and I have been married since 1979. We have two great sons and last year we were blessed with a beautiful grandson. Had I not met Dwayne all those years ago, only God knows where I would be today. Thank you Dwayne for the life I now have.

Condolence: To my dear Uncle Duckie. You were the best uncle and friend ever. I'll miss coming to visit you and getting to cook with you. I will never forget how to make the spicy shrimp you taught me how to make. I love you so much and always will. I hope you are still winking down at me every time you think of our promise. Condolence From: Fran Eckert Caye
Condolence: Oh memories, where do I begin...I was fortunate to meet Dwayne when I was in 8th or 9th grade and found out what it was like to meet one of the most wonderful, inspirational people I could have ever met in my life. Our sisters were best friends and with that came a huge wonderful circle of friends that time apart won't change the feelings of friendship. I'll always remember the prom I got to participate in when in 9th grade and what fun that was. I'll remember the night our mom's found us in a field party; not happy were they. I'll always remember the day Ducky and I drove to the RI beach and he let me drive his car home (it was my first drive), it was such a beautiful fall day. These are just some memories over 30 years ago and see they are still vivid. I thank Dwayne and his wonderful family and friends for all of those memories and I hope that everyone with memories of life with Dwayne; use those memories to help you during this time. He will never be far from my heart and he will always be a great friend and my big brother always. My love goes to the Emack family, Love always, Fran Eckert Caye

Condolence From: Tim Page
Condolence: I guess I met Dwayne about 1967, when all of the Mansfield elementary schools were suddenly combined at E.O.Smith. He was always one of the best guys around and everybody knew it. Back at a time when Storrs social life was splintered in ways that seem almost impossible to believe today and kids were expected to become "freaks" or "greasers" or "straights" and none of these groups talked a whole lot to each other, Dwayne was welcome everywhere, in every crowd. He was gallant, he was a gentleman, and he was astonishingly good-spirited under circumstances that might have made other young people bitter and remote. I probably haven't seen Dwayne since the late 1970s but I have never forgotten him and never will. Hail and farewell, dear Dwayne, and many condolences to your family and countless friends.

Condolence From: John Sterling Bobbitt
Condolence: Dwayne - wow! I first met Dwayne in second or third grade. He was a good friend, and I remember thinking how strong he was. Adversity did not diminish his smile or his sense of humor. I can remember playing "Hit the Pin" and everybody wanted Dwayne on their team because the teacher let him play "goalie" in front of the pin. It was a rare "strike" that got past his crutches. He taught me a lot about getting beyond handicaps and living life with joy and no regrets. Although I've not seen him for about 44 years, his courage and determination and smile was always inspiring. Requiescat in pace. My deepest sympathy to all his lovely family!
