Obituary for Shirley Solomon (Palefsky)
Shirley Solomon, 95, of Pittsfield, MA, formerly of Lowell, MA and Churchill Crest in Pittsfield, MA, died on December 30, 2016 at Melbourne Place.
Mrs. Solomon was a 1939 graduate of Lowell High School and attended Salem State Teachers College.
She was a teacher at several schools in the Lowell area and she also worked at H&H Paper Co.
In Lowell she was a member of Temple Beth El; Lifetime member of Hadassah where she served as Vice President; President of Sisterhood where she was also a lifetime member; Member of the League of Women Voters; Israel Bond Chairman of the Women’s Division; and a lifetime member of Montefiore Synagogue.
A resident of Pittsfield since 1983, she was a member of Congregation Knesset Israel and a volunteer at Tanglewood.
Shirley’s family wishes to thank her long term care givers Lisa, Nissa, and Elsie for the wonderful care they gave to Shirley and her husband Sidney over the past five and a half years. Shirley’s family also wishes to thank the personnel of Hospice Care in the Berkshires for their attention and kindness to Shirley and the entire family during this difficult time.
Mrs. Solomon was the wife of Sidney Solomon who predeceased her in February 2016, and the mother of Marcia (Charles) Mandel and Helene (Peter) Woog. She was the grandmother of Debra Woog, Jacqueline (Brad) Chernow, Carl Woog and his wife Lauren Thomson, Marc (Shana) Mandel, and Joshua Mandel and his partner Carrie Niziolek. She was also the great-grandmother of Aidan Woog McGinty, Kira Woog McGinty, Abigail Chernow, and Zev Woog.
Shirley was predeceased by her siblings Harold Palefsky and Norman Palefsky.
Graveside services will be held.at the Montefiore Cemetery 46 Pulpit Rock Rd Pelham, NH on Monday January 2 at12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires, 877 South St, Suite 1W, Pittsfield, MA 01201 or to the Kiddush Fund at Congregation Knesset Israel, 16 Colt Rd, Pittsfield, MA 01201, in her memory .for online condolences go to www.goldmanfc.com
